The 'Tait' Gallery's Sea Life Display
Written by Liz Greenhalgh
This week we were happy to have our friends Susan and Sophie Tait return for a week to help the education team with the children.
Susan and Sophie were willing to help with anything that was needed during the week, such as going to collect the children’s food from the soup kitchen and helping to serve the children’s lunches on a daily basis. They had also been informed prior to their visit of the theme of the week, ‘Sea Life’ and were asked to produce some crafts and activities for the children to do within this theme as well as produce a display of the children’s work.
The result was lots of fun having been had with the children as they played pin the eye on the shark, with which we ended up with some funny looking sharks and lots of laughing from the other children as they watched their friends trying to guess where it should go.
A beautiful sea life display was also produced with bright colourful fish and an octopus, hidden in the rocks. The children spent time making their fish during the craft time and they had to stick pieces of tissue paper onto them as they wished. They were also able to take home some nice sea life themed coulouring pictures, which Sue had copied back in England. The children enjoy colouring and were proud to show off their work.
Through the time that Sophie has been here, she has become good friends with Petre’s (our BHP team leader) daughter, Alexandra. On Friday, Alexandra stayed over at the centre with Sophie and enjoyed having a shower and singing on the microphone and eating pizza and on Saturday morning Sue and Sophie went to Petra’s house to look after 3 of their children whilst Petra and his wife went out. The children really enjoyed playing games and doing activities and are certainly looking forward to their visit again, as are we!
