The 'Look' of the Irish
Written by Liz Greenhalgh
On 17th February we received a large number of visitors all the way from Northern Ireland. In total 47 students and teachers from St. Patrick’s college in Armagh and St. Joseph’s, Donaghmore came to Ziurel to hear about FAST and our projects and see for themselves the people we are helping through this work.
Their morning consisted of many activities, which gave them a good broad insight into exactly who we are and what we do. They had a look around the centre, listened to a presentation and visited the red brick building, which is to be used as a Youth and Children’s centre as part of FAST’s future projects. Following this, there was lots of fun had by all, as our children and the Irish students took it in turn to dance and sing to demonstrate how it is done in the two different cultures. Some of our children bravely attempted to copy the Irish dancing and along with a lot of crowd support, did a great job!
The children also enjoyed having their faces painted by the visitors and also looked on in amazement and wonder at the magic tricks that one of the students performed.
The group, led by Jim McQuaid also kindly donated some food and drink, which we were able to share with the children. We thank everyone in the group for their visit and for making it such a fun time for the children and we hope to see you again at some point in the future!
