Youth 4 U's Easter Trip
Written by Liz Greenhalgh
At the end of March, 12 leaders and young people from the youth group, Youth 4 U of Westy Christian Fellowship, Warrington joined FAST for a week to support our Better Homes Project.
They had been given the mission of insulating the house of Dora and her 6 children, who had been living in their incomplete house for a number of months, waiting for the winter to pass until work could begin again. The group had been sent photos beforehand of the family and had been told about the project, and so they felt prepared, but still curious as to the reality of village life. The group started on the project after a couple of days sightseeing and they worked so hard that in just 4 days, not only had they insulated their house, they had also painted it too! The family was very happy!
Whilst their initial main focus was to insulate the house, the group also took it in turn to support our Education Project, as well as provide activities to the families children and others in the village. You could say that some of the children had a complete make over as they had their faces painted by two of the young people, Stacey Thompson and Alice Rogers and nails painted by others, whilst Gill Cooper, used her hairdressing skills to provide some of them with new styles.
Carol Andrews one of the leaders, spent one of her mornings preparing and cooking a meal in the family’s house, which presented a challenge given the limited facilities, yet alas, it was a great success and provided the family with a couple of tasty nutritious meals for the day.
The team achieved a lot during a short time and made a huge difference to one family in the village. FAST would like to thank them for supporting us in our goal to make a difference in the lives of the families we help. We hope that we will see you all again in the future!
