The Richardson Family use their Talents to Help FAST
Written by Liz Greenhalgh
The volunteer’s visits to FAST are becoming more frequent now with us heading towards the warmer months and for our first visit in April, we were pleased to welcome the Richardson family!
It is not often that we have a family visiting us at FAST, but it was great to have Paul and Linda, along with their children Joe 13 and Sam and Ed, 11, helping us for a week and the whole family are all individually gifted and so each one contributed something valuable to FAST during this time.
Their main goal of the week was to complete the music room and the family kindly made a donation so that a laminate floor could be put down. Paul and his children helped with the laying of the floor, which was a great start towards its completion and looks great now that it is finished.
Linda, who has many artistic skills, fixed our sowing machine and made 3 fantastic wall hangings, showing different musical instruments. These now proudly hang along one of the walls, really making a huge difference to the room’s look and feel.
The other part of her time was spent making a fantastic banner for the school in Garcin, which was used for the international Roma day celebrations. Some of the family also displayed their excellent musical ability at the show where all 3 of their children and Linda, played instruments and sang for the crowd.
Paul also did some football coaching sessions with children from Zizin followed by a match at the end of the training, which took part in the local gym hall, just outside of Ziurel. The children really enjoyed this time, learning new skills and having some competitive fun before coming to the centre for post match refreshments.
When they were not working hard, they were relaxing with the Hristea family and all of the children (and the adults!) had a great week together. It was a great way for the children to spend their Easter school break and the children spent a lot of time getting to know each other and having lots of laughs and fun, which has resulted in them all becoming firm friends and they are all looking forward to seeing other again soon.
We would like to thank the Richardson family for the time that they spent with us and for helping us to achieve a huge step forward with the development of the music room and for all of their other hard work and for the fun that they brought to the Hristea family, everything you did was much appreciated!
