What is the Child Sponsorship Programme?
A monthly contribution of 15 GBP/20 EUR/25 USD makes it possible for one child to be part of our Education Defeats Poverty Project. At FAST we believe that education truly does defeat poverty. Our programme supports children in their first year of school, giving them a solid educational foundation upon which they can build for years to come.
What Does My Sponsorship Cover?
Your sponsorship supports the cost of one child attending our programme. This includes not only educational activities, but also:
- Transport to & from our centre
- Quality educational activities
- A nutritious meal
- A warm shower when necessary
- New clothes when required
- Birthday presents
- Educational materials
Can I Be Connected With One Individual Child?
During the first year of running the Child Sponsroship Programme, we allocated donors to an individual child and whilst this greatly benefited those children involved, it was also a big learning curve for FAST and as a result of various unanticipated difficulties, we had to make changes in order to ensure the long-term success of the programme.
Therefore we now ask people to sponsor the programme rather than an individual child
or a specific family and the child sponsorship donations will provide the means for one child to attend the programme, but the funds are not directed to a specific child.
We are also very aware that we need to be viewed as a supporting role, working along side the school rather than as a separate, competing educational centre. It is to the benefit of all of the children we bring to the centre each day and to the whole school and FAST, if we work together. If the CSP runs so that the supporting donations go towards the benefit of each child attending the centre, this will help to promote this impression. If we appear to act separately from the local schools, or if we appear to be choosing students at random to receive the benefits of sponsorship, then the problems we experienced will continue and we will be less able to help the schools and the children to get what they need.
How Do I Start My Sponsorship?
You can sign up for the programme by visiting our Donate to FAST page, using either the PayPal feature or by setting up a direct bank transfer.
Once we receive confirmation of your sponsorship we will begin to send you regular updates on what is happening in the Education Project so you can see for yourself the difference your sponsorship is making.
